The Mythik-Mojo Rig
We wanted to take the time to give you a great finesse fishing technique that we seldom seeing people utilize. It is the a modified mojo-rig, we call the Mythik-Mojo Rig. Think of this rig as if you were to combine a split-shot rig to a lightweight Carolina rig.
Step 1 – The Set-Up: Use a spinning rod that you would use for either drop shot fishing or shakey head fishing rod (med-fast, ~6’6″-7’8″) paired with a high-quality spinning reel with a smooth drag. Use always suggest using Power Pro HI-VIS Yellow braided mainline to 6 – 8 pound Sunline Sniper FC fluorocarbon leader that is approximately 4-6 feet long.
Step Two: Put a bobber stop on the line and move it up approximately three feet.
Step Three: Then slide a 3/16 – 1/4 ounce tungsten bullet weight down the line and add a bead behind it. Then add TWO-THREE more bobber stops. Using the bobber stop in the front and in the back you can easily adjust how much the weight will travel up and down the line.
**Pearl 1: I found that using multiple stops behind the weight will prevent it from shifting position during the cast. So don’t be afraid to use 2-3 stops behind the weight. You can also adjust the distance of the weight to the hook by moving the bobber stops.
Step 4 – Final Step: Choose your hook and your bait. Use a finesse hook to tie off. Start with a number 1/0 worm hook then you can increase or decrease the size depending on how the fish react to your bait. Choose a small bait. A small fluke, drop shot worm or brush-hog worm amazing…again keep it small <4 inches.
**Pearl 2: If the fish are pressured. We will not add the bead behind the weight.
How to fish it the Mythik-Mojo Rig. Very similar to fishing a split-shot rig, the most important thing to remember is to cast as close the bank as possible and work it out slowly with short pulls and hops. The bite will feel mushy and you’ll notice the line start to swim away (this is why we recommend using the Hi-Vis braid, you can see the line move very clearly) This is also a super effective way to catch fish during the spring spawn, BUT you have to shorten the leader down to only 6 – 10 inches. Be patient with this approach because it will work. Have fun and stay safe.
